Chinese Herbs

Chinese herbs have been used for thousands of years in conjunction with acupuncture. They offer a gentle way to heal the body between acupuncture treatments. They include flowers, roots, barks, fruits, seeds, nuts, and stems. They are safe, natural, and effective when recommended by a Board-Certified Chinese Herbalist.

Our on-site Chinese herbal dispensary is one of the few in the area. We use only the highest-quality herbs in powdered (granular form). We customize and blend them to fit your specific needs and address your health concerns so you feel better faster.

The brand of Chinese herbs in our dispensary is Sun Ten Pharmaceutical, which has over 80 years of experience in the herbal industry and KPC Herbs, which has almost 60 years in the industry. Both herb manufacturers are based in Taiwan. Their herbs are manufactured according to the superior standards of Good Manufacturing Practice, which the FDA enforces with Chinese herbs. The herbs are rigorously tested internally by technicians at Sun Ten and KPC Herbs.

With all clients, we perform a drug-herb interaction check to ensure no side effects or interactions occur between herbs and the medications and supplements you are taking. Your health is our priority.

Chinese Herbs FAQs

How do Chinese herbs work?

Chinese herbs work with your body to rebalance it. Each Chinese herb has its own action on the body. For example, many Chinese herbs increase circulation and help alleviate pain. Others regulate your respiratory system to help stop coughing. At Palmgren Acupuncture, we customize Chinese herbs to address your specific concerns and needs.

Are Chinese herbs safe? What are the side effects?

Chinese herbs are safe when taken under the supervision of a Diplomate of Oriental Medicine. They typically do not have side effects. However, some patients may experience very mild stomach symptoms such as indigestion or nausea. Often these symptoms are alleviated when patients stop taking Chinese herbs. We always recommend contacting your practitioner if you have any questions or concerns.

What type of Chinese herbs do you have on-site?

Our Chinese herbal dispensary is comprised of granules (or powdered) and capsules.

Will Chinese herbs interact with my over-the-counter medicine and prescriptions?

We carefully cross-reference each Chinese herb we recommend with all of your medications to prevent interactions. Generally speaking, most Chinese herbs do not interact with medications.

I know what Chinese herbs I need. Can I come and pick them up?

No. Chinese herbs are only available to our clients. We recommend making an herbal consultation with one of our Board-Certified Chinese Herbalists to get a recommendation.

We offer Herbal Consultations to new and returning clients. You have the option to book an acupuncture appointment and ask for an herbal recommendation at your session.
