Spring is in full bloom and allergy season has arrived. Some calling this season pollen vortex, due to the recent polar vortex.
Here are four tips you can do at home to help manage your allergies:
Eat ginger, green onions, and garlic. These foods are Chinese herbs and help open up your sinuses. They are also anti-inflammatory and contain antioxidants.
Avoid sweets. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, when you have nasal discharge or mucus buildup, you have dampness in your body. Eating sweets which are damp in nature only makes your allergies worse. From a western medicine perspective, sweets suppress your immunity as soon as you eat them. When you are feeling a sugar craving, instead reach for an herbal tea such as peach or mint.
Get acupuncture. Acupuncture can work wonders on allergies by decongesting your sinuses, alleviating sinus headaches, and stopping sneezing and coughing.
Sleep well. This is old-fashioned advice, but it really helps! Sleep will help build up your immunity to fight off allergies.
Use a Neti Pot. Neti pots are a great way to open your sinuses naturally without harsh chemicals. Use only filtered or distilled water in your Neti pot to protect your sinuses from bacterial or viral infection.
